The Expert's Guide to AP Calculus BC Scoring

The AP Calculus BC exam is notoriously one of the most challenging Advanced Placement tests. However, it offers a unique advantage: the **AB Subscore**. This subscore estimates how you would have performed on just the AB topics (Calculus I) within the BC exam. TrendCart's calculator is specifically designed to handle both scores simultaneously.

How the BC Score is Calculated

1. Weighted MCQ: Your raw multiple-choice correct answers are multiplied by 1.2 to give a total of 54 points.

2. Raw FRQ: Your 6 free-response questions contribute 9 points each for a total of 54 points.

3. The Curve: Historically, BC students earn a 5 with a lower percentage of points than AB students because the material (like Series and Polar) is significantly harder.

Why Use TrendCart?

  • Dual-Logic (BC Score + AB Subscore)
  • 2026 Updated Series & Sequence Curves

  • No guessing penalty logic included

What is an AB Subscore?

Approximately 60% of the BC exam covers AB-only material. If you struggle with the advanced BC topics but excel at the AB material, you can still earn a 4 or 5 AB Subscore. Many colleges will grant you credit for Calculus I based on this subscore, even if your overall BC score is a 1 or 2. This is a critical safety net that every BC student should track.

Mastering the BC-Only Topics

To secure a 5 on the BC exam, you must focus on the additional units:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What composite score earns a 5 in BC?

Generally, a composite score of 65-70 out of 108 is enough for a 5. This is much more "generous" than the AB exam curve because the material is more advanced.

Can I get credit for both AB and BC?

Usually, you get credit for Calculus I & II with a high BC score. If you only score well on the AB subscore, you typically get credit only for Calculus I.
